Quick answer: A spiked Dole Whip is Disney's pineapple soft-serve with rum added — usually a Dole Whip float (soft-serve in pineapple juice) with coconut or spiced rum, offered at spots like Pineapple Lanai at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. At home, blend 2 cups frozen pineapple, ½ cup vanilla ice cream, ¼ cup canned coconut milk and 1 tbsp lime juice until thick and creamy, scoop it into a glass over 3 oz (90 ml) pineapple juice and 1½ oz (45 ml) coconut rum, and float ½ oz (15 ml) dark rum on top.

Pro tip: Chill your glass and use fresh citrus squeezed the same day. Taste before you pour; a few drops of lime or simple syrup fixes most balance issues.

Batching: Mix everything except ice and bubbles up to a day ahead and keep it in the fridge. Shake or stir each drink with ice to order. Fresh citrus is best within 24 hours.

  • 1 oz (30 ml) coconut water
  • Pineapple wedge and cherry

Dole Whip is Disney’s most famous snack: a pale yellow swirl of pineapple soft-serve, often eaten in line for the Enchanted Tiki Room. And for years, Disney has also sold a grown-up version with rum.

What Disney Serves

There isn’t one official spiked Dole Whip. It has taken a few forms at different locations:

  • Dole Whip float with coconut rum at Pineapple Lanai, the walk-up window at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. It was $13.00 when it launched in 2020.
  • Dole Whip with a splash of rum at Disneyland Resort, reported at $8.75 around 2016.
  • Dole Whip with spiced rum at past EPCOT Flower & Garden festivals.
  • The Lapu Hula, a Dole Whip swirled into a whole pineapple and served with a rum sidecar.

These offerings come and go and prices go up, so check the Disney app before you visit. The recipe below is the float style, which is the most common.

The Dole Whip Itself

Disney’s Dole Whip is a commercial soft-serve mix, and it’s dairy-free. At home, the closest match comes from frozen pineapple blended until it’s creamy enough to hold a peak. Our version adds:

  • A little vanilla ice cream for creaminess and a soft-serve-like finish. Skip it for a dairy-free version.
  • Coconut milk for body. It also complements the coconut rum.
  • Lime juice, the key ingredient. Frozen pineapple tastes flat on its own, and a tablespoon of lime brings back the bright, tangy flavor.
Why Copycats End Up as Smoothies

The most common mistake is adding juice to get the blender moving. Every splash of liquid makes it thinner, and soon you have a pineapple smoothie. Be patient: scrape down the sides often, use the tamper if you have one, or let the frozen pineapple sit for five minutes before blending. A food processor is often better than a blender for this.

For the classic soft-serve swirl, put the whip in a piping bag with a star tip and freeze it for 15–20 minutes before piping.

Building the Float

Pour pineapple juice and coconut rum into a tall glass. Pipe or scoop the whip on top so it floats. Drizzle a little dark rum over the top. It looks good and adds a molasses note. Serve with a spoon and a straw: eat the whip first, then drink the rum-spiked juice as it melts in.

For a Crowd

Make the whip ahead and keep it in a covered container in the freezer. Let it soften for 10 minutes and stir before scooping. Mix a pitcher of pineapple juice and coconut rum (2 parts juice to 1 part rum), pour into glasses and top with whip as you serve.

The Mocktail: Classic Dole Whip Float

The Dole Whip float sold at Disney’s parks is non-alcoholic to begin with, so the mocktail is the original. Our version adds an ounce of coconut water in place of the coconut rum, which keeps the coconut flavor and goes well with the whip.

Serving

It’s a dessert for a warm evening. Serve it with a luau-style dinner, or by itself while you watch fireworks on TV.

Quick Fixes
  • Whip melting too fast? Freeze it in the piping bag for 20 minutes and chill the glass first.
  • Tastes flat? Add another teaspoon of lime juice and a pinch of salt.
  • Too boozy for dessert? Skip the dark rum float and keep only the coconut rum in the juice.
  • Want it as a cup instead of a float? Blend 1 oz coconut rum straight into the whip and serve it in a bowl. Alcohol softens the texture, so freeze it for 20 minutes first.

Enjoy responsibly — must be 21+.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can you get a spiked Dole Whip at Disney?

Disney has sold several versions over the years, including a Dole Whip float with coconut rum at Pineapple Lanai at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, Dole Whip with rum at Disneyland Resort locations and at past EPCOT Flower & Garden festivals, and the Lapu Hula — a Dole Whip served in a whole pineapple with a rum sidecar. Offerings change often, so check the My Disney Experience or Disneyland app.

How much does a spiked Dole Whip cost?

Prices vary by location and year. Reported examples include $8.75 for a Dole Whip with a splash of rum at Disneyland (around 2016) and $13.00 for the Pineapple Lanai coconut-rum float at its 2020 launch. Expect higher prices today.

How strong is this?

It's mostly dessert — about 0.9 US standard drinks and around 4% ABV across the whole glass.

Can I make Dole Whip without an ice cream maker?

Yes. A blender or food processor with frozen pineapple is all you need. The ice cream and coconut milk add creaminess; the lime brightens the pineapple.

Can I make it dairy-free?

Disney's Dole Whip is dairy-free. Replace the vanilla ice cream with an extra ¼ cup coconut milk or a coconut-based ice cream for a closer match.

What's the non-alcoholic version?

Just skip the rum — a regular Dole Whip float is the original. See the mocktail for a version that keeps the coconut note.
